Meet the Owner
Mitch Foos, owner of The King’s Garden, enjoys his role as both designer and builder. He takes his work seriously and believes in the value of expert craftsmanship.
The King’s Garden was founded in 2009, and Mitch brings 28 years of landscaping experience to every project. As a Class A Contractor, he is able to combine his extensive expertise with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
“It’s the little details that make a landscape special, that allow it to speak to us in some way—the individual qualities of a particular stone, chosen for its unique location; the subtle effects of down-lighting on an entry walk at night; the way a planted bed transitions smoothly into the natural wood line. These details, often overlooked, are what separate extraordinary landscapes from ordinary ones.”
Mitch was raised in the Tidewater area and earned a B.S. in Psychology from the College of William and Mary. He views his background in the social sciences and religion as a help in his work. “The way families enjoy their outdoor environment has a profound impact on their home life. Enhancing aesthetic beauty, creating eco-friendly landscapes, building a custom children’s garden… these are all ways to improve life around the home and promote well-being through wholesome living.”
Mitch and his wife Amy live in Toano with their two children and their dog. They enjoy being part of the greater Williamsburg community.

Isaac Hyde serves as Project Manager and Lead Mason for The King’s Garden. Raised in New Kent, Isaac has worked in masonry and outdoor construction for 20 years, including five part-time years and 15 full-time years in the trade.
As a mason, Isaac has worked on historic masonry projects in Colonial Williamsburg, an experience that continues to shape the way he approaches craftsmanship today. “If you build something right, and you do a good job, it can last for generations.”
As Project Manager, Isaac pays close attention to the details that help a project run smoothly and last well, from masonry joints and drainage concerns to soil preparation, planting depth, and communication between the team and homeowner. He believes honesty and clear communication are essential to helping clients feel comfortable throughout the construction process.
Isaac takes pride in doing work carefully and thoroughly, with a desire to honor both the craft and the landscapes entrusted to his care.
Sara White-Lamb serves as Landscape Designer for The King’s Garden, helping clients turn ideas, questions, and hopes for their outdoor spaces into thoughtful, workable designs. Her process begins with careful listening and site observation, with an understanding that many clients know how they want their landscape to feel before they know how to describe it.
“I try to listen to both what they’re actually saying and what they’re wishing for,” Sara says. Drawing on her experience in landscape design and horticulture, she considers each property’s conditions, from soil, sunlight, and drainage to the practical details that shape how a design comes to life.
Sara works with Mitch and the build team to help ensure each design is beautiful, buildable, and suited to the landscape it serves. She values design-build because it carries that vision from concept through installation. Sara takes pride in helping clients feel heard and confident as their outdoor spaces take shape.
Jacob Phillips serves as Turf and Tree/Shrub Management Specialist at The King’s Garden, where he focuses on protecting and strengthening the long-term health of each client’s landscape. He enjoys the problem-solving side of his work and understands that every property has its own conditions, challenges, and history.
With licensed experience in turf and ornamental plant health management, Jacob brings technical knowledge and a practical, detail-oriented approach to his work. He pays close attention to soil health, drainage, plant stress, and environmental factors, helping homeowners care for their landscapes with intention rather than relying on one-size-fits-all treatments.
“Extraordinary landscapes don’t happen by accident,” Jacob says. “They’re built through consistent, thoughtful care and paying attention to the details most people never see.”
Jacob takes pride in helping clients protect their investment through proper diagnosis, proactive care, and long-term stewardship.
